South East
Curving around London’s western and southern sides, the South East runs from the Chilterns to the Channel ports and from the Solent to the Thames estuary.
Think of the region as a wheel. The M25 is the rim, and the spokes run outwards from it: the M4 to Reading and Newbury, the M40 past High Wycombe to Oxford and Banbury, the M3 to Basingstoke and Southampton, the M23 to Crawley and Brighton, the M20 and M2 into Kent. Almost every town on this page sits on or near one of them.
That makes the South East one of the easier parts of the country to collect from. A licensed buyer working a spoke can usually reach a village a few miles off it as readily as the town centre.
Oxford runs a Zero Emission Zone in its centre, with daily charges for most non-electric vehicles during the day, and the county council has consulted on a larger zone. Portsmouth has a Class B Clean Air Zone, which targets buses, coaches, lorries and taxis rather than private cars. Neither affects how a scrap car is collected, but both are part of why older vehicles are leaving these streets.
In Bracknell, Milton Keynes or the newer estates around Ashford, a car is usually on a driveway and loading is quick. Along the coast, from Worthing to Eastbourne and in the older parts of Brighton, Southampton and Portsmouth, it is often squeezed into a crowded street. Mention anything awkward when the buyer phones, such as a shared drive or a car park with a height barrier.
Whether it is a failed MOT, a Cat N write-off or a van that has sat on SORN for years, the offer comes from a buyer who covers your postcode, and the vehicle is recycled at a licensed ATF.
