Leeds · Yorkshire and the Humber
Leeds once called itself the Motorway City of the Seventies. Half a century on, plenty of cars parked on its back-to-back streets are ready for recycling.

Leeds embraced the motorway early. The M1 and M62 both serve the city, the M621 feeds the south side of the centre, and the inner ring road dips through cuttings and tunnels beneath it. In the 1970s, postmarks proudly called Leeds the Motorway City of the Seventies.
The housing tells an older story. Harehills, Beeston, Armley and Burley still have rows of back-to-back terraces, a type of house Leeds went on building long after most English towns had stopped. There are no drives or back yards for parking, so a car that will not start quickly becomes a problem for the whole street. In Headingley and Hyde Park, student lets turn over every summer and the odd untaxed hatchback is left at the kerb.
Leeds City Council planned a charging zone aimed at older lorries, buses and taxis, then dropped it in 2020 after air quality improved. Private cars were never going to be charged. If you are scrapping a car in an LS postcode, the reasons are mechanical or financial rather than a fee at a boundary.
The Leeds Outer Ring Road (A6120) sweeps round the northern side of the city, linking suburbs such as Horsforth, Moortown and Seacroft. Closer in, residents’ permit schemes around the hospitals and universities are worth mentioning when you book, so the driver knows where to stop.
Send the reg and an LS postcode, and the licensed buyer covering that patch names a price. Agree, and the car is lifted at no cost and driven away to an ATF, which provides the Certificate of Destruction.

How it works
Four stages take an unwanted car from your drive to a new life as recycled material. Here’s what happens at each one.
Enter the registration and the postcode where the car is parked. The details go to a licensed buyer who covers that area, and they come back with an offer.
Agree the offer and pick a day. The car is collected free of charge from a drive, a street, a car park or a garage, wherever it happens to be.
The car goes to an Authorised Treatment Facility, where fluids, the battery and hazardous parts are removed safely and the paperwork is completed.
Reusable parts are recovered, and the shell is shredded so the steel, aluminium and other materials can be made into something new.
